Fatigue Resistance?

Fatigue resistance, what’s it all about? Let’s not over complicate it, it’s pretty much what it says on the tin. What proportion of your max effort can you produce when your tired, at the end of a long hard race let’s say.

Its not just about hitting numbers and going fast, it’s about doing it for a long time, over and over again.

The majority of riders with a deccent level of fitness can hit respectable peak powers in the first part of a race, but it’s what you can do at the end that counts.😳🤛 Generally, this is what separates the pros from everyone else.

So, in a nutshell developing our resistance to fatigue is useful for almost every cyclist.

Whether you race cross, time trials, road races or mtb, they all involve max efforts, repeated over and over again 🤪🆘. Whether you’re sprinting off the startline, out of corners, across cambers or up steep muddy banks the ability to go hard and recover is REALLY important. Most races end with a sprint, either from the bunch or a small group. If you go into these sprints fresher, of course you will be more likely to win.

Anyone who’s out on their bike regularly for over an hour, racing or simply trying to ride a bit faster will benefit from developing fatigue resistance.
